Why we love: Box breathing is a really simple breathing technique to instantly calm your nervous system and come back to focus and balance. You can do it on the bus, at work or when you are trying to calm your nerves before a test.
For who: This technique suits most people wanting to relieve stress and regain focus. Fun fact is that as box breathing both helps concentration as well as relieving stress, the method is used by the US navy SEALs.
How it works: Box breathing, or square breathing, helps you slow down your breathing, and while your mind is focused on counting to four, your nervous system starts to slow down and the stress in your body releases. Box breathing is really easy to learn. You simply find a place to sit or lay down, then start counting to four as you breathe in, hold and count to four, breathe out and count to four, pause and (you guessed it) count to four. Then repeat it until you feel satisfied. The Youtube link on the side has a good video to help you with the counting and get you started.
