Why we love: How you breathe can in an instant impact your nervous system and by doing Wim Hof’s Breathwork in the mornings, you are guaranteed a good balanced start of your day. Wim Hof is quite a character and his breathwork technique is both easy and fun to learn.
For who: Wim’s technique is safe for anyone who is healthy and well, but you should consult your doctor beforehand if you have a serious medical condition, and if you are pregnant you will have to wait until the baby is out to try the technique. Otherwise before practising, just make sure to follow the instructions provided on the Wim Hof website.
How it works: You follow a set of 30 – 40 deep breaths, you then hold your breath (on the exhale) for a certain amount of time (you start with trying to not breath for 1 minute), before you inhale and hold it for 15 seconds, and then finally exhale. This is then repeated 3 – 4 times. The point of this “controlled hyperventilation” is to tap into the body’s nervous system and create a controlled, short stress response, to help you and your body deal better with the daily stress and ultimately improve your wellbeing.
